Take A Bubble Bath
There’s no better way to wind down after a long stretch at work than soaking in warm water surrounded by a relaxing scent. Not only will it soothe your sore muscles, it will make you feel magnificent. Dim the lights, light a candle, and play some relaxing music! Bonus points if you add cucumber slices over your eyes or a face mask! I like to keep a variety of face masks on hand for my self-care days to switch it up a little bit.
If you’re not really one for bubble baths, then take an extra long, hot shower! Use shower steamers to really elevate the experience.
Relax With Your Favorite Drink
Sit down at the end of a long week with your favorite wine, seltzer, or soft drink. My personal favorite is drinking hot chocolate while watching one of my favorite Netflix shows. Put your feet up and just enjoy the time off! Choose your favorite mug or aesthetic drinking glass to really elevate the experience.
Take A Day Trip
Get out of town and far away from work for the day! Plan a shopping trip or try a new restaurant in the next town over. Visit a museum or take a hike on an outdoor trail. Changing up your scenery is the perfect way to refresh after a long week! Google things to do in your state and you may find something interesting to spend time doing for the day.
Get a Manicure or Pedicure
Treat yourself to the ultimate spa day by getting your nails done. I highly recommend finding a nail salon near you that offers hot stone pedicures! They are typically more on the pricey side compared to a regular pedicure but so worth it! Many nail salons offer other specialized pedicures such as ‘Milk & Honey’ or ‘Chocolate.’ They both sound and smell delicious! Revitalizing your hands or feet is arguably the best way to feel refreshed on your day off.
Try New Skincare Products
Try a new face mask or a gentle face scrub! Personally I feel like when I try out a new skincare product it makes me feel a little extra special. Obviously you know your skin best so if changing up products causes irritation or for you to break out, don’t do it! In this case, treat yourself with your already known products! My absolute favorite gentle face scrub can be found linked below. I also recently discovered small facial sponges that expand when water is added to them! They’re extremely useful with your regular face wash and will make you feel extra clean. I HIGHLY recommend them!
Watch A Girly Movie
There’s no better way to relax from your stressful job than distracting yourself with a good chick-flick! Many of your favorite movies can be found on streaming services like Netflix and Hulu! Or, if you’re like me and you own many of your favorite movies on DVD, search your collection and pick one out!
Settle down with some popcorn and your favorite candies and enjoy your time off!
Add Some Color to An Adult Coloring Book
This is one of my personal favorites! It’s so relaxing to just put your feet up and add some color to a blank page. Not only does it let you channel your creative side, there’s evidence that it relieves anxiety and improves your sleep! My personal favorite coloring books are those with swear words or funny animals.
Declutter A Space In Your Home
This one may not seem like a typical self care idea, but you will feel so much better when it’s done! When you return to work, you’ll feel so much better that you spent time on your day off being productive and improving your home. Part of practicing self care is taking care of your surroundings since the things you choose to surround yourself with directly affect your mood! Choose a closet or drawer that you’ve been meaning to get to for a while. You won’t regret it!
Spend A Day Vegging Out
If you’re feeling particularly burned out, there’s no shame in spending a day lounging on the couch. I’ve probably done this more times than I can count. It’s really important for you to take care of your mental health. And, I’m a true believer that your body will tell you what you need to do. If your body is telling you to take it easy for a day, then do it! Order some food and turn on your favorite show or movie!
Learn Something New
Is there a craft or hobby you’ve been wanting to get into? Spend the day learning how to do that thing! This could be making homemade cards, learning to paint, learning to crochet or knit, or even a small home renovation project! Sourdough has been particularly popular lately and there are so many recipes you can make when you grow your starter!

Try a New Recipe
Try a new recipe you’ve been meaning to make. My favorite place to find new recipes is through Pinterest! Pretty much anything you can think of that you’d want to make is available in recipe form on this site. My favorite things to try out are baking recipes or dinner ideas. This sort of goes along with the previous idea, but it’s so good I just had to share it twice!

Buy Yourself Flowers
There’s no better way to freshen up your home than having a fresh floral arrangement. Plus, when you go back to work you’ll have something beautiful to come home to. Many local grocery stores sell flower arrangements. Keep a vase on hand and commit to your self-care routine by always having fresh flowers around!
Have a Social Media-Free Day
Think of how much time you spend in a day scrolling on your phone or laptop. Trust me, I fall victim to this so often too! This not only leads to you comparing yourself to others, but it sets an unrealistic expectation to how you should live your life. You shouldn’t feel like you have to do everything or be a certain way to live a fulfilling life. Practice self-care by focusing on the things you enjoy and want to focus on rather than comparing your life to others. Do this by putting away your phone or laptop for a day and focusing on something else.
I hope these self-care ideas will help to guide you through your next day off! I practice all these on the regular and hope you add them to your own routines. By practicing self-care you will feel better about yourself and more refreshed when it’s time to head back to reality.
